Both Concert and Symphony Orchestras rehearse every Wednesday night at 6:00 on the LLA campus. They are open to the community. Each have 4-5 performances per year in the local area, and have other exciting events planned as well. This spring, the Concert Orchestra will be taking a day trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain to participate in the Forum Music Festival and tour the park, and the Symphony Orchestra will be going on tour to Florida.

HeartStrings Program

“Students, go out into the highways and the hedges. Endeavor to reach the higher as well as the lower classes. Enter the homes of the rich and the poor, and as you have opportunity, ask, “Would you be pleased to have us sing? We should be glad to hold a song service with you.” Then as hearts are softened, the way may open for you to offer a few words of prayer for the blessing of God. Not many will refuse.

Such ministry is genuine missionary work. God desires every one of us to be converted and to learn to engage in missionary effort in earnest. He will bless us in this service for others, and we shall see of his salvation.” –Ellen G. White, Review and Herald, Aug. 27, 1903.

We have several new plans for the upcoming school year. One of them that we’re excited about is the HeartStrings program, which is our newly-organized outreach program. Once a month, there will be a planned event in our community where students will offer a short musical program. Venues will include nursing homes, church events, community events, hospital lobbies, and other places.

The purpose of the HeartStrings program is twofold: one, to give students a chance to “try out” the pieces they have learned in a casual, low-pressure performance situation, and most importantly, to share music with others in the community who might not have much of a chance to hear a live performance. Students may play solos, organize themselves into groups of duets and trios etc., or there may be group performances associated with group classes.

Each student is required to sign up for at least one event per year, but there is no limit to how many events you can participate in. A list of events will be given at the beginning of the school year, and sign-up sheets will be posted several weeks before each event.
